WhiteNoise fix for latest OS v2.2 firmware update

Postby toddm » Sun Nov 23, 2008 9:37 pm

White Noise was broken by the OS v2.2 firmware update. We have fixed the problem and the latest version is available on iTunes. White Noise and White Noise Lite have both been updated and are available.

What's was the issue?

Apple changed the default behavior of 3rd party applications to no longer play sounds when the screen is locked. Apple gave no notice of this change so we had to scramble to get an update out.

Cheers,
Todd

2.2 firmware issue

Postby RickMGoldie » Mon Nov 24, 2008 11:34 am

I suspected as much (Apple changed behaviour of background apps) but was going to suggest a screen-dimmer control in the app so it could remain open but not shine too bright in the dark after "lights out".

Great news you have responded so quickly, and poor show on Apples part by not pre-warning developers - very odd behaviour indeed.

Regards,
Richard

Thank God. i need my sleep. This application has been a saviour as I was getting a good night sleeping listening to my favourite brown noise.

Excellent new and thanks you for sorting it so quickly.

you rock. thanks for the really quick update. this was even more painful for me, as for work i have the Cisco VPN client installed, which forces some security policies on the phone - one of which is removal of the 'never' option in auto-lock. so i could only get 5 minutes of noise before - boom! locked up.

White Noise v2.3 "update no longer available"

Postby RSA » Tue Dec 09, 2008 7:41 pm

Update to v2.3 comes up on iTunes -- but when I try to download the update, iTunes reports that the program (update) is "no longer available."

Can/should I just buy it again, and hope that I'll be told I already own it, not be charged, and get offered the chance to download again? Or should I wait for a fix?

Great program!

White Noise 2.3 was recently posted late last night and most likely demand is high which could be causing issues (its happened before). iTunes will not charge you if you already bought (notifies you once it starts downloading) so feel free to give that a try.

Cheers,
Todd

Thanks -- BTW, get same "not available" reply when I try to (re)buy. I'll wait a while and see if it's just iTunes Store server overload.

We looked a little further, and it turns out our account is in the middle of an upgrade with the iTunes store. It appears while this is going on our application will not be available. Sorry about this. We have contacted Apple and hopefully they will be available shortly.

Whitenoise 3.0

Postby Fiddlerpony » Thu May 07, 2009 11:40 am

It appears the issue with whitenoise turning off when ipod touch locks has reappeared in 3.0. The only way to keep whitenoise going is to disable screenlock which my battery doesn't appreciate. I need my whitenoise to sleep :-)

This appears to be an isolated case as we would be hearing from hundreds of people (like last time). You may want to verify you did not roll back to an earlier version somehow. Does your version have the photos of each sound? We have tested White Nolise 3.0 on both the iPhone original, iPhone 3G, and iPod 2. Can you let us know what platform you have (1st or 2nd gen), firmware your running (2.2.1, etc) and version of white noise (hopefully 3.x). Cheers, Todd

Oddly enough it started working again after i toggled the automatic lock back again. My version does have the picture of each white noise. Sorry for the false alarm.

I have same issue with WhiteNoise 3.0 - turns off

Postby alvarob17 » Tue Jun 30, 2009 5:20 pm

Hi,
I'm experiencing the issue mentioned above. WhiteNoise was working fine previously. I upgraded to 3.0 and now after my iphone auto locks, WhiteNoise shuts off. About 10 seconds afterwards. If I turn auto lock off, it works fine.

I have the iphone 3G with OS 2.2.

thanks...

I have same issue with WhiteNoise 3.0 - turns off

Do you have a jailbroken iPhone with 'Pandora Controls' installed? I had the same issue with WhiteNoise and other sound apps quitting about 10 seconds after the phone 'auto-locked.' After some trial and error I figured out that it was Pandora Controls that was causing the problem. After uninstalling Pandora Controls, the problem disappeared. Good luck.
