BB White Noise - Sound cuts out

Postby berocketman » Fri Oct 09, 2009 6:05 pm

downloaded the app last night and was very excited to use it. Unfortunately I ran into a couple issues. I was hoping there may be a work around I didn't explore.

For reference I am using an AT&T Blackberry Bold.

After about a minute of listening to the app, the sound would completely cut out. This seemed to be because the screen would shut off after 30 seconds and then the sound would follow about 30 seconds later. I decided I would plug in and go into bedside mode after the app had started, this seemed to work except I found after 5 minutes the sound cut out briefly then restarted. I had remembered reading a review that if the phone goes out to check email the app would jitter like that so i turned off my wireless connections. Unfortunately this didn't remedy the issue.

Right now the app is somewhat useless if I can set a timer for 1 hour, but the sound cuts out every five minutes.

Sorry to hear your having issues. Are you saying the sound stops completely after 5 minutes or you hear silence and it restarts?

Do you have any other apps running in the backgrouond?

We will try to recreate what you are seeing and follow-up.

Cheers,
Todd

Other apps running: Facebook, gmail, bbm, and the built in email and calendaring.

Here's what I do and it seems to always recreate the issue. Fire up the app, change to crickets, set the timer (1 hour), turn the volume all the way up, plug the phone in (brings up the clock).

After 5 minutes the sound goes silent for a few seconds then comes back. Then again exactly 10 minutes after starting the sound completely stops. The only way to get it back is to interact with the phone.

The purpose of buying this app is to have the sound in the background and not have to think about it. If I have to interact with the phone every 5 minutes then it won't help me sleep any better.

Ok, After looking all around my phone trying to figure out why it does this, I think it may have something to do with my phone automatically locking after 10 minutes. In fact if I lock my phone while white noise is running the sound completely cuts out. Unfortunately if this is the cause, this is a setting enabled by my company's security policy and I couldn't change it if I wanted to.

There must be a way to have the app play audio while the phone is locked. I can use the BB mp3 player to listen to music while the phone is locked so it can't be impossible.

I just followed your steps below: "Fire up the app, change to crickets, set the timer (1 hour), turn the volume all the way up, plug the phone in (brings up the clock)" And I have not had any issues with the sound stopping.

Even if I press screen lock on the top of the phone it still continues to play (as designed). The sound does shutoff if you hit the back button while in white noise (exits app). Clicking the red hang up button or menu/switch application keeps the app running in the background and sound playing.

So I would have to agree it is probably something with your corporate settings. Where is the lock setting you found? Can you provide more information in regards to your company's security policy and if there is a way for me to configure my phone to be similar?

Thanks,
Todd

Well the company requires the phone locks after 10 minutes without using the phone, requires a password to unlock, and encrypts the data on the phone and memory card. other than that I don't know how they have things configured.

The lock I'm referring to is the phone lock, if you go to the home menu there's an icon that looks like a padlock. I've used the end button like you said, and then hit the lock button.

Since you've locked the screen I bet it has something to do with the encryption.
